Under the Hood: Diraq
You Can't Read Culture. It's a Feeling.
Date: August 17, 2023
Quantum Women's event series Under the Hood is designed to foster professional connections in the quantum tech industry and empower female talent to land their dream jobs with dream teams.
On 17th August, we hosted a virtual session with Diraq, who is on an ambitious journey to revolutionise scalable quantum computing! Since launching in May 2022, Diraq has successfully secured venture capital and won numerous esteemed grants to propel their scientific and commercial goals.
During the session a team of experts discussed the various roles and responsibilities within the company, and the diverse kinds of backgrounds they're looking for as they continue to grow their team. Personal experiences and career paths of individuals in the quantum computing field were highlighted, emphasizing the interdisciplinary nature of the work and the value of different educational and professional backgrounds.
Dr Andre Saraiva provided a detailed explanation of the principles of quantum computing, particularly focusing on spin qubits. He explored their potential to revolutionize computing by offering greater scalability and integration with current semiconductor technologies.
Alexandra Dickie shared her non-traditional journey into the quantum industry, emphasizing the value of practical industry experience and how it complements academic knowledge in this field.
Stefanie Tardo discussed her transition from a background in business and finance to a leadership role at Diraq, highlighting the interdisciplinary and diverse skill sets required in the quantum computing sector.
The team also discussed the broader implications and future prospects of quantum computing, touching upon the challenges in quantum technology education and the importance of collaborative efforts between academia and industry. Their insights included perspectives on how quantum computing could impact various sectors, the importance of nurturing talent in the field, and the role of governmental and private sector investment in advancing these technologies.
After the presentation, participants seized the opportunity to ask questions during a dedicated Q&A session.
The goal with our Under the Hood series is to spark the creation of long-lasting relationships between employers and future quantum tech talent, introduce potential candidates to a wide range of career opportunities, provide a platform for employers to showcase their technology, people, and culture, and ultimately promote diversity and inclusion in the quantum tech industry.
